The Dennis Uy-FamilyMart hogged the limelight recently after curious Netizens witnessed several of its branches with closed doors, not a buzz of activity inside.
Speculations point to financial issues though no official statement from FamilyMart can confirm this.
One Twitter user JP (@dumidyeypee) said, "An abandoned FamilyMart branch in Market Market, BGC. Newspapers still scattered, supplies inside despite no electricity. Ganito din sa branch nila sa Uptown as I saw last night while running. What had happened?"
The FamilyMart convenience retail store chain is the second largest in the world and is a Japanese-owned company. Davao businessman Dennis Uy bought the franchise from the Ayala and Tantoco groups and their Japanese partners.
