Now it can be told.
International boxing champ Donito Donaire has conquered another world—acting.
Although belatedly announced, the silver screen appearance of the world renowned master of ring, also known as “The Filipino Flash” is anticipated by his fans.
Donaire, a multi-awarded boxer finally agreed to star in a feature film about a young Visayan wannabe pugilist who wants to become famous in the boxing ring but is thwarted by circumstances beyond his control.
Dandin Ranillo, a US-based actor, writer and director had convinced Donito—Donito Donaire, Jr. in full name—to tackle an acid artistic test outside the sports canvass.
Eventually, the world famous boxer didn’t mince words with Dandin as he faced the movie cameras and showed not only his acting but his dancing and singing flairs as well in “Palad ta at Nagbuot (Our Fate Decides),” an MYR Productions project shot in the Philippines when one of its stars, Gloria Sevilla, billed as the Queen of the Visayan Movies was still alive.
Although the film is in the can for years, it didn’t dampen the spirit of Dandin to show his directorial outing to the world as a showcase of Donaire’s other talent but as a tribute to Gloria as her contributions to Visayan movies.
“Palad ta at Nagbuot (Our Fate Decides)” also marks the rebirth of Visayan cinema.
Aside from Sevilla and Donaire, the sports film also features Gary Lim, Max Surban, Dionne Mansanto, Sam Costanilla, Mon Confiado and launches the screen career of Krissel Valdez.
As a benefit project for the Gloria Sevilla Foundation, the last full-length feature done by Tita (a term of endearment to an aunt or older woman by blood or by affinity) Glo before her death on April 16, 2022 will premiere on September 29, 2022 at Calvary Church in Amador Street in Vallejo, California; October 14 at Envision Theater in Van Nuys, California; October 16 at the Historic BAL Theater 14808 E 14th Street San Leandro, California 94578; October 17 at ABS-CBN International Studios in Redwood City.
