A message that's worth repeating: for authorities, bomb jokes are no laughing matter.
This, after security at the Butuan Airport in Agusan del Norte was intensified following a bomb threat received Thursday, August 15.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said that Butuan Airport Police Station (BAPS) received a text message at 5:14 p.m. Thursday, indicating that a bomb had been placed in the airport's comfort room boarding area, and in baggage checked in on flights from Cebu and Manila.
The aviation regulator added that BAPS conducted a comprehensive search, including checking paneling and discreetly clearing areas where the bomb threat was made in the boarding area.
The search covered restrooms, check-in counters, and baggage build-up areas, but no explosive materials were found.
However, despite the incident, there was no disruption of flight operations.
CAAP said they have added more security personnel to conduct additional patrols at the airport's landside areas.
The CAAP helped BAPS by identifying unattended luggage and suspicious activities, as well as secretly monitoring the passenger terminal building.
