EXPECTING larger volume of gifts and parcels that would arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Bureau of Customs- NAIA has conducted real time and motion study to avoid delays even as the country enters the Yuletide Season.

This, as the Port of NAIA is continuously conducting coordination meeting and virtual governance sharing with other government agencies.

Parcels and gifts coming from abroad sent by overseas Filipino workers to their loved ones in the country usually arrive through Philippine Postal Corporation (PhlPost) and other courier and cargo forwarding companies.

To address the expected surge of packages, Port of NAIA District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan and PhilPost Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio tackled the modernization of its operational system to further streamline its processes via Zoom video conference.

Both agencies are targetting to launch systems in Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC). These projects, they said, aimed to transform the logistical structure of parcel importation more efficiently, secured, and easier to administer.

The Port of NAIA has expressed its "full support to the initiatives and projects of Bureau of Customs (BoC) and its partnership with PhlPost to improve service for the general public, especially to balikbayans, OFWs, travellers, and all others.

Likewise, the Port, being an ISO 9001:2015-certified agency, shared its best practices on its improved trade facilitation and border protection measures, and also emphasized the importance of online systems in this time of pandemic to lessen face-to-face transaction and prevent virus transmission, aside from its contribution to the digitization goals of an agency.

BoC-NAIA said the meeting was also attended by Jason Cheng, member of the Multi-Sector Advisory Council of the Port of NAIA, Joel Zamudio, Assistant Postmaster General, Eliezer Rosal from PhlPost, Mark Jhon O. Almase, Acting Subport Collector of CMEC, and Arnaldo dela Torre, chief of Customs Bonded Warehouse Division.

Governance sharing is one of the nine elements of the performance government system which aims to promote good governance by sharing best practices strategy between other external agencies.
