BATANGAS CITY, Batangas – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Mimaropa took part in the 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on Thursday.,

The drill aimed to enhance the preparedness and resilience of the BJMP and its jail facilities in the event of an earthquake or similar disaster in the region composed of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan, according to BJMP Mimaropa information officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo.

“The BJMP hopes that this activity will encourage communities to develop a culture of disaster resilience, emphasizing the importance of coordination among various agencies when disaster strikes,” Anglo said in a news release.

During the activity, BJMP employees and persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) demonstrated swift and coordinated actions, following safety protocols and evacuation procedures as part of their commitment to disaster risk reduction and management.
BJMP Mimaropa Director, Jail Senior Supt. Clarence Mayangao said the simulation exercise underscored the importance of readiness and reinforced the collective capability to respond effectively to emergencies.

“This is an opportune time to evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of the preparedness, response and contingency plans, systems and policies of our offices and jail units,” he said.

He added that the successful conduct of the 1st Quarter NSED reaffirmed BJMP’s proactive stance in ensuring the safety and security of its personnel and PDLs while supporting the national government’s efforts in promoting public awareness and preparedness against natural hazards.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD), in cooperation with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), pushes for the continued advocacy on earthquake awareness and preparedness since the Philippines, located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, is highly prone to seismic activity, making earthquake preparedness essential.
