Catbalogan City, Samar — In a strong message to the faithful, Catholic Bishop Crispin B. Varquez, DD of the Diocese of Borongan, emphasized the need for ethical leadership and environmental stewardship as the 2025 elections approach.
In his pastoral letter, he condemned the pervasive issue of vote-buying and the manipulation of the electoral process for personal or political gain.
"An salapi amo an nangunguna nga paagi hin pagdaog ha piniliay. An pagpalit-pagbaligya hin botos nahin-araan na nga gawi nga, tungod hini, mayda liwat mga kandidato nga ginbabaydan basi kumandidato o diri kumandidato, ug nagbubunga ini hin kakulang hin maupay nga pagpipilian," Bishop Varquez stated.
He urged voters and candidates alike to prioritize the common good over personal interests, calling for honest elections that respect the dignity of every individual.
He further highlighted the connection between responsible governance and the protection of the environment, stressing that leaders who are genuinely committed to serving the people must also advocate for sustainable practices.
The bishop’s letter serves as a timely reminder of the need for integrity, vigilance, and active participation from all sectors of society to ensure a better future for the country and the planet.
