Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) emerged as the overall champion of the 39th State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Region VIII Meet, capping a dominant campaign in the 2026 Eastern Visayas games jointly hosted by Eastern Visayas State University, Leyte Normal University, and UP Tacloban College.

Based on the official medal standings posted during the closing stages of the tournament, BiPSU topped the leaderboard with an impressive 87 gold, 78 silver, and 71 bronze medals for a total of 236 medals, showcasing depth and consistency across multiple sporting disciplines.

Visayas State University (VSU) placed second with 83 golds, 27 silvers, and 58 bronzes for 168 total medals, narrowly missing the crown despite a strong late push.

Visayas State University has long been regarded as one of the region’s sporting powerhouses and again proved its competitiveness.

Host school Leyte Normal University finished third with 80 gold, 55 silver, and 24 bronze medals, totaling 159 medals, while fellow host Eastern Visayas State University landed fourth with 33 gold, 83 silver, and 49 bronze medals for 165 medals.

Though EVSU had a higher overall medal count than LNU, rankings were determined primarily by gold-medal output.

Rounding out the upper half of the standings were Southern Leyte State University with 123 total medals and University of Eastern Philippines with 122 medals, highlighting the parity among the region’s mid-table contenders

Other participating institutions included Eastern Samar State University, Samar State University, Northwest Samar State University, Palompon Institute of Technology, and UP Tacloban.

Held under the theme “One SCUAA 8: Strengthening Unity Through Sports,” the weeklong meet gathered the best student-athletes from state universities and colleges across Eastern Visayas.

Beyond medals, organizers emphasized camaraderie, discipline, and regional solidarity.

With the regional meet concluded, top performers are now expected to form the Eastern Visayas delegation for future national SCUAA competitions, carrying the banner of Region VIII onto the bigger stage.
