Be prepared, but don't give in to panic.
That was the advice of Biñan City, Laguna Mayor Gel Alonte to residents as prices of oil products continue to spike amid continued tensions in the Middle East.
In a press statement Tuesday, March 24, Alonte appealed to Biñanenses for discipline and cooperation as prices of oil products rose to as high as P125 per liter that week.
Citing the recent declaration of a "State of National Energy Emergency" by the national government, the city executive also assured residents that it is ready to take the necessary measures to ensure a stable supply of oil products in Biñan City.
These measures include strict monitoring of gasoline stations in Biñan City to deter manipulative price increases, panic buying, and hoarding of oil products.
Aside from this, the city government has also activated its Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) to monitor prices of basic commodities as a guard against overpricing and profiteering.
