Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. filed Senate bill 1463 to help consumers lessen their parking rates in all parking facilities in the country.

Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. filed Senate Bill 1463 which has fixed parking rates in all commercial and business establishments, institutions, and parking facilities in the country.

“While we respect businesses that help our economy grow, we also need to balance and protect the interests of the majority.” Revilla said. “It’s only right that we regulate the parking fees that, sometimes, are no longer fair.”

Parking fees in malls, supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, schools, and dedicated parking facilities will be P20 for the first three hours, plus P5 for each hour after that as stated under the bill. Motorcycle parking fees are P10 plus P2 per additional hour, Business World reported.

The overnight parking fee will be P100 for all cars and P50 for motorcycles. The flat rate for valet service will be P100.

Parking tickets that are lost or damaged will be charged an additional P100, and lost parking cards will be charged an additional P200.

Customers can also pass through and park for free for up to fifteen minutes under the bill. Customers who spend at least P500 in a restaurant will receive three hours of free parking.

“Sometimes, the income of our countrymen is only meager, then it will be reduced even further because of very expensive parking fees in workplaces.” Revilla said.

Some parking lots, particularly in central business districts, charge "exorbitant fees" of up to P400 for eight hours. This already accounts for a significant portion of a worker's daily wage.

Expensive parking fees are also added to consumers' already budgeted funds, particularly in their daily commodities. This bill was filed to assist consumers in lowering their expenses.

This kind of bill has been pending in Congress for several years already, it should have been enacted a long time ago.

“So now, we will really push for its passage in Congress, especially since it will heavily reduce the expenses of ordinary citizens.” Revilla stressed.
