The recent road improvement project led by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Biliran made its step forward in boosting tourism and economic growth in the region.
With a budget of Php 67.1 million, the project has enhanced accessibility to the Ulan-Ulan Falls in Brgy. Sampao, Almeria.
This collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT) for the fiscal year (FY) 2024 underscores a strategic approach to promoting eco-tourism and ensuring the safety and convenience of visitors and residents alike.
The project involves constructing a 3,750 square-meter slope protection structure to prevent soil collapse and landslides, ensuring safer travel for motorists and visitors. Road shouldering was also done to enhance the road's durability and functionality.
The installation of 62 solar-powered streetlights along the route is another commendable aspect of the project. These eco-friendly lighting solutions not only provide better visibility at night but also contribute to the sustainability goals of the region.
The emphasis on renewable energy reflects a forward-thinking approach to infrastructure development. DPWH-Biliran OIC-District Engineer Irwin L. Antonio is optimistic that the improved road will promote sustainable tourism and significantly benefit the local economy.
