DOST – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) Director Dr. Imelda Agdeppa said a study conducted by her institute showed that giving VCO to Covid-19 patients in addition to current medication can improve their chances of recovery.
THE recently-concluded study conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna may pave the way for the use of virgin coconut oil (VCO) as “adjunct therapy” for Covid-19 patients.
During a media interview, DOST – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) Director Dr. Imelda Agdeppa said the study, the results of which had been published in an international journal, showed that giving VCO to Covid-19 patients in addition to current medication can improve their chances of recovery.
“Kung meron na pong existing na gamot yung pasyente at kung mabibigyan po siya ng VCO, ito yung sinasabi naming makakaragdag ng paggaling ng isang pasyente,” she said.
Agdeppa said based on the study, patients with VCO added to their meals reported that they recovered from symptoms as early as two days, while those who did not take VCO recovered in five to six days.
The blood of patients who took VCO has low C-reactive protein (CRP) level, which means low possibility of infection, she added.
Aside from VCO, the DOST is also pushing for the use of lagundi in treating Covid-19 patients.
Concurrent studies conducted by the DOST-FNRI showed insignificant difference in the clinical recovery time of mild Covid-19 patients that were given 600 milligrams (mg) of lagundi formulation every day compared to the placebo group, or those not given lagundi. (OpinYon News)
