The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is now conducting an investigation into the cause of a fire in which 19 vehicles were burned at the parking lot extension of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Monday, April 22.
Initial unofficial reports gathered by MIAA said that the incident began with a small grass fire that quickly spread, burning several nearby vehicles parked in the area.
The fire was finally contained, with MIAA Rescue and Fire Department declaring fire out at 1:57 p.m.
No one was reported hurt or injured as a result of the incident.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eric Ines said that "representatives from the BFP were present at the scene of the incident and have initiated their investigation to determine the cause of the fire."
The airport management said that they will also take into consideration the accounts of the parking lot attendant and airport security who were managing traffic near Terminal 3, as well as staff in the nearby parking lots, in order to provide more information on the incident.
"We are relieved to know that no one was hurt or injured in the incident. I have directed all pertinent MIAA units to give their full support to the BFP for the speedy completion of their investigation," Ines said.
