More than 3,000 women, mostly Batangueñas, based in Batangas City came to listen to their mayor, Beverley Rose Dimacuha, expound on the role and great sacrifices of women in their families and in society in general.
The occasion was the city's celebration of Women's Month last March 7, held at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum with the theme, “Women in All Sectors, Tomorrow Will Rise in the New Philippines."
The celebration started with a holy mass at the Basilica of the Immaculada Conception attended by the women’s group from various barangays.
In her message, Mayor Beverley Rose Dimacuha emphasized the important role women play in shaping society.
As the "light of the home," the wife or mother provides the necessary balance and direction in family life, especially in the raising of children, she said.
Mayor Beverley also advised the attendees to "remove envy to succeed in life."
The commemorative program was prepared by the City Social Welfare & Development Office (CSWDO) and the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI).
The gathering was held to celebrate the achievements of women while recognizing the challenges they continue to face in achieving equality.
CSWD Officer Hiyasmin Candava, in her inspirational message, said that the role that women play is important not only to their families but also in the well-being and welfare of their community.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Committee on Women and Children Welfare Chairperson Councilor Ched Atienza praised the officers of KALIPI on the programs implemented that have benefited their members.
Highlight of the event was the city-wide Zumba dance competition.
Cluster 4 was presented as champions, composed of barangays Kumintang Ibaba and Ilaya, Santa Rita Karsada and Aplaya, Sta. Clara, Wawa, Calicanto, Malitam, Bolbok and Cuta. They received a P10,000 cash prize and a certificate.
The Cluster 7 team won the second place while the cluster 3 representatives won the 3rd prize.
Awards were also given to the winning groups of the KALIPI Inter-cluster Volleyball League.
Cluster 3 won the first place, the group from Cluster 4 got the second place and the Cluster 6 representatives got the 3rd place.
The members of Team EBD joined hands and extended their greetings to the women.
