PSC’ grassroot program Batang Pinoy will return this December at Ilocos Sur after a two-year break due to the pandemic.
Batang Pinoy Games, the annual grassroot sports event, is finally back this December in Vigan, Ilocos Sur after 2 years of hiatus due to COVID-19.
On October 27, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Jose Emmanuel “Noli” Eala and Ilocos Sur Governor Jeremias “Jerry” Singson signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila to formalize the return of the games.
“It is our honor and pride to host the Batang Pinoy 2022 and the province of Ilocos Sur is very excited when I announced that finally, we will host the Batang Pinoy. Nagpapasalamat po ako kay (I would like to thank) Chairman (Noli) Eala that you accepted and chose us to host the Batang Pinoy 2022. Malaking bagay po ito sa amin because through sports, makikilala na naman po ang Ilocos Sur and, hopefully, mabubuhay ulit ang aming economy,” said Singson.
Also gracing the event were Singson’s Executive Assistant Atty. Jannah Singson and PSC Executive Director Atty. Guillermo Iroy.
After making it official, the event on December 4 to 12 as originally planned, will instead make a hybrid comeback on December 17 to 22.
Eala’s native province turned out to be Ilocos Sur and is estatic about the return of Batang Pinoy in the area.
"The 2022 Batang Pinoy National Championship is actually going to be the first major PSC-organized competition under my watch and that is why I am very honored to do it in the province of Ilocos Sur where the Ealas come from," he said.
Batang Pinoy was last held in Puerto Princesa, Palawan back in 2019, when PSC was still under William “Butch” Ramirez, the former chairman of the organization.
