Banknote designer Angel Cacnio passes away

Multi-awarded artist and painter, Angel Cruz Cacnio, known for his contributions to Philippine money design, has passed away at the age of 90.

In a Facebook post, son Ferdinand Cacnio, announced, “The Cacnio family is deeply saddened to inform you that our father, Angel Cruz Cacnio, has passed away.”

He succumbed to pneumonia at the age of 90.

Angel Cacnio is a multi-awarded artist and painter.

His notable works include “Tatlong Sabungero“(1953) and “The Capture of Mabini” (1964).

He was also lauded enough to be given the opportunity by the Central Bank to design the 50 and 25 centavo coins and the 20 and 100 peso bills.

He co-founded the organizations Sining Tambobong Foundation and Malabon Tourism.

His house is an art gallery that showcases his masterpieces and other artists’ works.

“Angel Cacnio will be remembered by many as a prolific painter, masterfully capturing various Filipino genre subjects,” Ferdinand added.
