Head back home

To the provinces, we go.
Yes, after the many trials and tribulations that we faced in this COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have decided to call it quits and return to the land we were born.
Operators of so-called micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have realized only too well that the metropolis is not a place for just anybody to come and be rich.
Even the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have not been spared from the shock that hit country. They, too, were displaced by their host countries and forced to pack bags and head back home.
No Other Option
But what are the alternatives?
None really, except go home to the province where life was once so easy and laid back.
Isn’t it nice to be home which everybody calls sweet home?
Kidding aside, it’s wonderful to be home when there’s no other place to go home to. Especially if there’s a puppy waiting to be cuddled and lapped.
Now, a fresh and healthy start is what we are looking for.
Literally, Back To The Soil
What then could be your fresh and healthy start?
Could it be a new idea in agriculture?
A new system, a new method, a new procedure? Or maybe just a little adjustment here and there.
Agriculture, so they say, is open to explore amid these economic crisis.
Business leaders have noted an exodus of small entrepreneurs who know how to run an organization.
Or, maybe an OFW who has a little interest in plant genetics or animal husbandry.
Hydrophonics
I once saw a show on television about a man who had a luscious garden of hard-to-find vegetables in a space equivalent to a garage.
The beauty of that garden is that it’s got no soil. It’s what he calls hydroponics and you can marvel at the way he uses water and other inputs. His plants are placed on top each other so that each column will have a height as tall as a person himself.
The guy’s garden is so beautiful. At first his customer are his neighbors, friends relatives are others. Which is only fair considering that he started out only as a hobby.
Serving Its Purpose
As the days passed, his operation grew bigger and bigger. Now his sphere got so big he had to set up elsewhere.
This is one example of how some of our colleagues can start a business in agriculture.
It doesn’t have to be big.
The only question is that it has to serve a purpose.
