San Pablo City in Laguna Province will never be the same again without beauty queen-actress, 1975 Mutya ng Pilipinas Miss Photogenic Azenith Briones.
So, while Azenith is still around, especially among San Pablo City residents, it is wise and proper to give her the recognition she mostly deserves as a leading showbiz personality in the city.
Briones has given San Pablo City, in more ways than one, a veritable image of a place where glamour also resides.
Even when Azenith was just a teener, she had rubbed off beauty and talent to the so-called City of Seven Lakes.
Briones spent her heyday in the city with aplomb.
She was always the representation of pulchritude, especially when she was chosen as a sagala (a maiden during the Santacruzan in the colorful and religious Maytime—the season of flowers—festivities.
When Azenith became a beauty queen, the whole of San Pablo celebrated her victory.
She was, as a matter of fact, presented to the community as a pride and joy of the city.
What more when she became a movie star.
She was a model of the youth despite the daring roles she played onscreen because she had shown perseverance and hard work to achieve her goals of a very popular and relevant woman to the times.
Briones socio-civic projects not only in Manila but also in San Pablo resonate in the country.
Azenith’s support to BAI (Battle Against Ignorance) Foundation is a living testament of how she extends her help to people being ruined by drugs.
Instead of aligning with EJKs (Extra Judicial Killings) of the previous administration, Briones took a different path.
Because she values and respects human life.
She believes that we can still reform drug dependents, especially from among the poorest of the poor, not by killing them but sheltering them to inspire and rebuild themselves as useful citizens of the land.
Just recently, Azenith went to Cebu City to support the fund-generating projects of BAI Foundation whose president is her friend and actor Lito Gruet.
Briones touring around the world is part of her altruism and vacation on the side.
She was busy in the recent fundraiser with Lito—a golf tournament in Cebu for the benefit of BAI Foundation.
To recharge energy, she flew to Vietnam to take a breather and look for supporters to her altruistic vision.
In Vietnam, she was an attraction as a beauty queen and a Filipina, very pleasing and approachable.
In Saigon, Azenith would like to know how Vietnam was able to rise above poverty and dislocation after the war in the 60s and 70s.
