Sixteen aspiring artists from the municipality of Tolosa gathered on March 21 at the campus of Daniel Z. Romualdez State Comprehensive School Of Fisheries (DZRSCSOF) for ARTraka ha Tolosa 2026, a community-based art workshop aimed at nurturing local creativity and strengthening the town’s growing art community.

The one-day event was organized by Discover Tolosa in partnership with Kolor Banwa, OpinYon 8, Cafe Dayn, and DZRSCSOF. The initiative brought together local talents and experienced artists for a hands-on learning experience focusing on Tuba Painting and Acrylic Painting.

Four artists from Kolor Banwa facilitated the workshop and shared their techniques and artistic insights with participants eager to develop their skills.

The Tuba Painting session was led by artist Archie Prisno, who introduced participants to the traditional medium derived from fermented coconut sap.

Prisno demonstrated how the natural pigment can be used to create earthy tones and organic textures in artwork.

Meanwhile, Acrylic Painting was facilitated by visual artist Kat de la Cruz, who guided participants through basic painting techniques, including color blending, brush handling, and composition. She encouraged the young artists to explore creativity and express their own stories through color and form.

Also present during the workshop were artists Idol Oliver Apurillo and Aldrin Mercado, who shared words of inspiration with the participants.

“Art is not just about talent. It’s about passion and the courage to express yourself,” Apurillo told the participants. “Art is always available for those who are willing to practice.”

“Salamat nga gin invite niyo an amon grupo nga Kolor Banwa. Ipadayon la niyo in inga iyo programa ha arts nga bisan mga batan-on pa, ig enhance na an ira mga talent,” Mercado said.

Meanwhile, for the young participants, the workshop was a meaningful opportunity to learn directly from experienced artists.

“Good job for Discover Tolosa. Maupay ini hiya nga advocacy para hin pag develop hit talent hit mga young artists ,” Mr Chris Palima, a visual arts teacher from Tolosa National High School told OpinYon 8.

Organizers said ARTraka ha Tolosa 2026 aims to promote appreciation for the visual arts while providing a platform for emerging artists in Tolosa to learn, collaborate, and grow.

By bringing together mentors and young creatives, the event highlighted the role of community-driven initiatives in building a vibrant and supportive art scene in the municipality.
