Rep. Co addressed that 2023 budget will include medical facilities of the country.

Four government specialty hospitals will receive ₱750 million budget each namely the Philippine General Hospital, the Philippine Cancer Institute of the PGH, the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, and the Philippine Children’s Medical Center

Representative Elizaldy Co, Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations announced during the bicameral conference committee the approved 2023 national budget includes about ₱750 million each for the four legacy specialty hospitals to start multi-year construction of new 20-story buildings.

The budget given to the medical facilities will improve its facilities, offices, and service for the patients and hospital personnel.

Speaker Martin Romualdez was putting right the details of the national budget, Co said in a press statement.

Co said that the budget also allocated ₱540 million for 20 dialysis centers in the Philippines to expand coverage of medical referrals by lawmakers and senators to incorporate private hospitals through a voucher system.

“We are looking at the medical hotel concept for the realization of the 20-story buildings. Ten stories for hospital facilities, 5 stories for doctors’ clinics and offices, and 5 stories for dorm facilities for hospital personnel and patients and their relatives-caregivers-watchers during their hospital stay and recovery. Add to that several levels for underground parking,” Co said.

Further, Co also cited that there are also allocations for five other government hospitals including Mariano Marcos Memorial Medical Center with ₱750 million budget, Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center worth ₱750 million, West Visayas State University Medical Center - P750 million and Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Kidapawan City with a budget amounting ₱500 million.

Co also said there will be a multi-year hospital modernization program so other government hospitals will also get upgrades. This shall serve as “the centerpiece of a roadmap for massive public sector investment in public health care nationwide.”
