LAST Saturday, September 4, the 2nd Cavalry Masigasig Battalion, Philippine Army turned over its book donation to Barangay Ayaas in Tayabas City, in an effort to help in the education of young students in the city.

Staff Sergeant Reyes handed over the assorted books to Barangay Captain Crisensio Empamano.

“The activity was initiated by the Book for a Cause Project (BFAC) founded by Ramil Sumangil, through the 21st Cavalry Company, 2nd Cavalry Battalion, Armor Division, PA and 49th Infantry Battalion, 9th Infantry Division, PA,” Reyes said.

The turnover ceremony was made possible with the support of PNP-Police Community Relations of Tayabas and Crime Watch Force. Empamano thanked the Army officers, and the two organizations named.

“Itong mga aklat na ito ay magsisilbing ‘Ayuda sa Pagbasa’. Sa pamamagitan ng mga aklat, ito ay makatutulong sa mga mag-aaral sa panahon ng pandemya,” Empamano added.

It can be recalled that Ramil Sumangil established Books for a Cause (BFAC) to instill in the minds of less fortunate Filipinos the belief that poverty should never impede education. Sumangil's simple act of book-giving has now grown into a major partnership of individuals, schools, businesses, and communities donating books to improve reading and education in the Philippines.

The BFAC also accepts stuffed toys, and even copies of music and movies, and computers and gadgets that may still be used and shared to young students.

This is the kind of sharing that we all need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
