SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Department of Education (DepEd) in Antique is gearing up for the school year 2024-2025 with a strong initiative to address the shortage of armchairs in public schools through its "Building Achievers and Nurturing Greatness for Knowledge and Opportunities" (BANGKO) project.

Roselyn Abuela, the focal person for social mobilization and network division, highlighted the campaign during an interview on Monday, emphasizing the need for more armchairs across various public schools in the province.

According to data from the DepEd Antique Education Facilities Division, there is a deficit of 2,035 armchairs, particularly in newly established integrated national high schools and remote areas.

"Some schools are using old armchairs that urgently need replacement," Abuela noted.

She encouraged interested donors to coordinate with the division or directly approach school heads to contribute to the armchair donation drive.

The campaign will kick off during the Brigada Eskwela, the National Schools Maintenance Week scheduled for July 22 to 27. This annual event ensures that schools are refurbished, classrooms are repainted and repaired, and premises are cleaned to create a conducive learning environment before the official school opening on July 29.

The initiative aims not only to alleviate the armchair shortage but also to enhance school facilities and prepare them for the upcoming academic year, underscoring the importance of community involvement in supporting education.
