Former Laguna 3rd District Representative Sol Aragones has officially declared it: she's running, once again, as governor of the province in the 2025 elections.

Aragones, a former broadcast journalist, made the declaration during the official launch of her independent political party, the Akay National Political Party, in San Pablo City Friday, May 10.

Aragones said the party aims to address pressing issues in education, healthcare, job creation, and good governance.

She said the new political party will also extend its support to other marginalized groups such as senior citizens, transport groups, and the local Muslim community.

"While there are children struggling with their grades to get education, while patients wait endlessly in hospitals, while joblessness plagues our communities, while PWDs cling to hope, and while there are still believers in change, we will be their unwavering allies," she said.

Aragones is the first to officially declare her intentions to run for Laguna governor in the 2025 elections.

Three other "potential" candidates include 2nd District Representative Ruth Mariano-Hernandez, wife of Governor Ramil Hernandez; Santa Rosa City Representative Dan Fernandez; and Vice Governor Karen Agapay.

Both Fernandez and Aragones had also tried to gain the gubernatorial seat in the 2004 and 2022 elections, respectively.
