Water Plus Productions has created a novel idea of a premiere night of a film.
Marynette Gamboa, the producer behind the outfit, has finally decided to hold the premiere showing of the film “Idol The April Boy Regino Story” in a hotel.
In an invitation sent to this writer by actress and Treasurer of the Katipunan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon (KAPPT) Lynn Madrigal, it is stated that the premiere night will be done on November 22, 2024 at the Grand Duchess Hotel, the former Great Eastern Hotel along Quezon Avenue.
The idea seems bright and practical because a hotel can also accommodate as many moviegoers as possible.
Marynette initially planned to mount the premiere night at the New Frontier Theater in Cubao with the cast of the film billeted at the Novotel in the nearby Araneta City to be whisked away by limousines to the red carpeted cinema.
This time Gamboa has experimented on a different plane—a hotel.
“I am excited to witness the event,” said entertainment writer Art Tapalla who is very observant of the happenings in the local film industry.
“Idol The April Boy Regino Story” is about the life and times of Sawang. Capul, Northern Samar native and Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon April Boy Regino.
“Ibang klase ang Water Plus Productions. Kakaiba talaga. Winasak ni Marynette ang tradisyunal na premiere showing ng mga pelikula. (The movie outfit makes a lot of difference. It is cut above the rest. Marynette debunked the traditional premiere screening of movies) Bravo!” praised Art, himself an iconoclast movie journalist.
“Idol The April Boy Regino Story” launches the acting career on the big screen of singer and stage actor John Arcenas and newcomer looker Kate Yalung of the Yalung showbiz royal family of Cine Suerte, Inc.
It also stars Tanya Gomez, Dindo Arroyo, Imelda Papin, Puwitney Tyson, Irene Celebre, among others, under the direction of Efren Reyes, Jr.
