An engineer in Borongan City, Eastern Samar says four members of his family were killed by government troops after being mistaken as members of the New People’s Army.
THOSE opposing the continued existence of National Task Force to End Local Communism and Armed Conflict (NTF- ELCAC) might have another solid reason to raise.
A family in Borongan City, Eastern Samar is now grieving after four of its members were allegedly killed by members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Wednesday (May 5).
Engr. Roniel Bechachino took to Facebook to express his “disappointment” after his parents and two siblings were killed due to allegations of being members of the communist rebel group New People’s Army (NPA).
“Kunta san'o kamo nagpaturapak hin bala pinangi-nginano anay niyo kun hin-o ine nga mga tawo… gintatagan pa kamo hin senyales nga mga civilian hira waray gud ine niyo papansina,” Bechachino said in his post.
The engineer’s youngest sibling is yet to be found, while the Philippine Army’s 78th Infantry Battalion has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
The battalion has been conducting operations against suspected members of the NPA in the outskirts of Borongan City in the past few days.
Last May 3, the army recovered weapons, ammunition, subversive documents and personal belongings after an encounter with suspected NPA members.
The soldiers have stepped up their patrol in the area acting on reports of concerned civilians regarding the presence of armed rebels in their village attempting to extort food and intimidate residents. (JKA/With report from PNA)
