Another passenger was apprehended on Wednesday, May 28 by the Aviation Security Group after joking with airline cabin crew that he was carrying a bomb in his carry-on bag while boarding a domestic flight.
Aviation police said that the cabin crew was reportedly assisting the unidentified 40-year-old traveler when he allegedly made a bomb-related remark.
Bomb jokes are punishable under Presidential Decree No. 1727.
Despite being meant as a joke, the cabin crew took it as a serious security risk and promptly notified the pilot, subsequently requesting security assistance.
Airport authorities immediately responded to the area and conducted a thorough aircraft inspection as part of standard operating procedures to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
Authorities later allowed the plane to depart after the inspection.
On May 25, Aviation police apprehended a Cebu-bound passenger for also making a bomb joke.
The Cebu Pacific flight was delayed for several hours after all the luggage was brought to the airport's tarmac for rigid inspection.
Aviation Security Group Director P/BGen Christopher Abecia reminded the public that any mention of bombs or explosives, even a joke, threatens airport security, disrupts operations, and endangers lives are punishable under PD 1727.
