Another human trafficker nabbed at NAIA

A woman who was travelling with her "friends" was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for her involvement in illegal recruitment.

National Bureau of Investigation-International Airport Investigation Division (NBI-IAID) chief Ruel J. Dugayon on Thursday said that Jonalyn Dacayo-Bueno was caught while trying to transport two Filipina workers to Singapore on April 10, 2022.

The NBI-IAID said the three were catching a Cebu Pacific flight 5J803 bound for Singapore when they were held by officers of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) on suspicion that they will illegally work abroad.

The bureau was on high alert of possible human trafficking at the country's main gateway due to the apprehension of another woman who was charged for trafficking a minor last March 2022.

During investigation conducted by the bureau, Bueno said in a 'rehearsed responses' that she was traveling with her two friends identified as Normina M. Sapad and Joy V. Agassid.

Bueno claimed that she met Sapad through Facebook while Agassid was her friend from Nueva Vizcaya.

The NBI-IAID agents later learned that Sapad was introduced to Bueno through Sapad's cousin who was working in Dubai.

Bueno sweet-talked Sapad that she had already sent a lot of people to Dubai for employment as she owns a travel agency, Kabsat travel and tours.

For a total amount of P63,200 to be deposited to Bueno's BDO account as payment, Sapad agreed just to get a job at the United Arab Emirates, which covered all her travel documents.

Bueno also told Sapad that they will first travel to Singapore as tourists while preparing for her visa and ticket for Dubai.

On her part, Agassid admitted to NBI that Bueno offered her a job in Dubai as a cleaner and was also told to travel to Singapore while waiting for her visa.

The NBI-IAID later learned through the Department of Migrant Workers that the suspect is not licensed or authorized to recruit workers for employment abroad.

Bueno violated R.A. No. 8942 (Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995) as amended by R.A. 10022 for illegally recruiting the two passengers.

On March 23, 2022, a suspect identified as Jasmina Marohombasar was nabbed at the NAIA by joint element of the Airport Police Department and the NBI-IAID for trafficking a minor.

The suspect was trying to bring a 15-year-old babysitter to the United Arab Emirates.
