Davao airport authorities held a 42-year-old traveler bound for Singapore for making a bomb joke, ignoring the potential consequences that could come with it.

The Davao International Airport Police Station said the passenger identified as Marjun Pleños Tin-ao was at the airline check-in counter when he cracked a joke, saying that there were no fragile items inside the bag but only a bomb.

Tin-ao from Digos City, Davao del Sur, recanted and said it was just a joke.

Police said that Tin-ao insisted that it was merely a joke, but the customer service agent (CSA) of Scoot Airlines proceeded to inquire about the baggage of the passenger who was traveling with three others.

The CSA then alerted the airport police, who promptly intervened and arrested the passenger.

Tin-ao was taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for a medical examination and later transferred to the Sasa Police Station for temporary detention.

If found guilty, Tin-ao could face imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to P40,000 for making bomb jokes.

Last week, a Philippine Airlines flight from Manila to Japan was delayed after a passenger received a call from a woman claiming that there was a bomb inside the plane.
