Fear has gripped residents of Misamis Occidental after reports of a “demonic” cult attacking residents in the middle of the night.
Is a “demonic” cult spearheading attacks against innocent civilians in Misamis Occidental?
Rumors that a cult is stalking residences in the middle of the night have spread like wildfire not only in the province but in other places in Mindanao as well.
The word “Mindanao” became a trending topic on Twitter recently after stories of a group of individuals knocking on doors with an intention to kill circulated online.
A Twitter user named “camie” said that alleged cult members are roaming in the area around 9:00 pm in the evening to 4:00 am.
The suspects will then knock on doors and then kill the unsuspecting people who open them.
Most of the alleged attacks were reported from towns and cities in Misamis Occidental, including Ozamis City, Oroquieta City and the municipalities of Aloran, Sincaban, Plaridel, and Lopez Jaena
There have also been claims of people "disappearing" and "reappearing", hinting that the individuals seem to hold supernatural powers.
A local netizen from Davao City commented that such incidents already appeared in 2019 but claims about it have died down since then.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is now looking into the reports.
“We’ll have to secure, perhaps, initial information from the regional director of PRO (Police Regional Office) 10. Rest assured such information will be communicated specifically to concerned individuals affected,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Ildebrandi Usana said in an interview on PTV’s Laging Handa briefing on Saturday.
Usana said if the armed persons are associated with leftist organizations, “the NPA (New People’s Army) in particular, we’ll see to it that appropriate action will be taken by the police.”
Still, the rumors have become so entrenched that residents are reportedly advised not to leave their footwear outside their doorsteps to imply that they are not inside the house. (NP)
