“Sibol”, Alex Ordoyo’s first solo exhibition, will feature artworks that explore the relationship of humans with nature and God.

FOR artist Alex Ordoyo, human beings will always be intertwined with the natural world, and life is parallel to the events in the Bible, from Genesis to the Apocalypse.

“Sibol”, his first solo exhibition, will feature artworks that explored the relationship of humans with nature.

Ordoyo won the grand prize for the water-media on paper category of the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) in 2018.

He is a teacher at the School for the Arts of Iloilo National High School (INHS) and a family man, and he works on his art on the side.

“Sibol” showcases how Ordoyo sees nature – from his hometown, Santa Barbara, Iloilo, to the farmlands of Balibagan Este village.

There are 17 pieces of artwork that resemble a woman’s body – which for him is the personification of Mother Nature.

He used different kinds of media in creating striking watercolor, acrylic, and oil paintings.

His works show his vision of what the Garden of Eden looks like. He also features an allegory of Adams and Eves in a world filled with temptations.

One of his works juxtaposes Genesis and the Apocalypse in showing how there are goods and evils in society today, especially in social issues about the family, environment, and socio-economy.

The artist also has an art series that feature his three young daughters as he pays homage to the importance and power of women, especially those women in his life.

One of the best pieces in the exhibit features an image of Christ and how Ordoyo’s faith is replenished every day with salvation and blessings.

The exhibit will run until June 20, 2021, at the Eskinita Art Farm in Tanauan, Batangas.

Ordoyo is one of only three grantees of Tuklas, the mentorship program of Alfredo Esquillo Jr. and Renato Habulan in 2019. “Sibol” is the result of that program.
