AktorPH, a new organization of film and television stars, has released an official statement about the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards, or simply FAMAS, fiasco that happened during the award-giving body's awards night at the Manila Hotel recently.

The faux pas involved veteran actress Eva Darren who was bypassed as presenter of an award supposedly with Tirso Cruz III.

According to Fernando de la Peña, one of Eva's children, her mom was sent by FAMAS a script to memorize.

Apart from that, Darren was sold with four dinner tickets amounting to P20,000.

But the actress was shocked when she heard and saw that someone had taken her place as presenter with Tirso.

Disrespectful, Rude

De la Peña said it was rude, disrespectful, unprofessional and simply disgusting.

AktorPH found the incident very unfortunate for the local film industry. “…We aspire to revive the genuine essence of these events and bring back the glory of these gatherings, by fostering intimate celebrations that recognize excellence and embrace every individual without fear of exclusion and discrimination…”

Despite FAMAS eroding credibility, stars of high magnitude and prominence still patronize it.

But why?

Big Stars Present

Stars like Piolo Pascual, Enchong Dee, Kathryn Bernardo, Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Coco Martin, all of them members of AktorPH, among others, are quite eager-beaver to attend FAMAS?

FAMAS knew it needed the presence of these big stars to guarantee dinner ticket sales and advertising support on TV coverage or live streaming.

Why don't these luminaries be better off as unheralded best and most excellent thespians for they are, indeed, without gauging themselves with unreliable award givers than be perceived as suckers for awards?
