Escoda Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Josefa Llanes Escoda, the founder of Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP).

It serves as a reminder of her values of courage, compassion, and community service, uplifting future generations of young Filipino women to continue her legacy.

When Escoda established the GSP in 1940, she initiated not just an organization but a movement that empowers young girls to gain confidence in their abilities, nurture a sense of social responsibility, and develop commendable leadership qualities.

She created a safe space where girls can learn, grow, and thrive with the knowledge they possess and the strength to become outstanding leaders and admirable citizens.

On September 20, Kalibo Pilot Elementary School (KPES), the District Scouting Committee of the Kalibo District 1, honored the extraordinary life of Escoda and her timeless contributions to the nation especially in advocating for women’s rights and inspiring women to lead, serve, and contribute meaningfully to society.

The Girl Scouts of KPES celebrated Escoda's 126th birth anniversary with a commemorative program led by Grecilda P. Pinos, the School GSP Coordinator, and Nancy M. Ramos, the School Star Scout Coordinator.

The girls gave love offerings in the form of flowers and cards, and monetary donations for the Josefa Llanes Escoda Memento Fund which symbolizes hope for the future in continuing her mission of creating a more just and compassionate world.

Escoda’s legacy built on the values of bravery, kindness, and dedication lives on through every Girl Scout who wears her uniform with pride, and every young woman who dares to dream of making a difference in the community, igniting friendship and love in all things they do.

She lives forever in the love and service of others through the movement she mothered—to millions of Twinklers, Stars, Juniors, Seniors, and Cadets.
