The suspect in the September 23 Molotov cocktail incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 confessed that he threw the device in retaliation over the security measures at the airport.

Renieldo Dela Peña Perez, who was arrested during a follow-up operation by the Airport Police Department on September 28, admitted his crime during interrogation.

According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), Perez, also known as "Bolayog," was charged with attempted arson and alarm and scandal on October 6 before the Pasay City Prosecutors Office.

Perez, a former taxi driver, confessed to airport authorities that he cannot easily wander around Terminal 3 open areas like before.

"Because of the resentment of not being able to enter the strict procedures of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport so it throw a Molotov cocktail in retaliation," the MIAA said.

The MIAA said Perez was identified by a concerned informant, who went to the Airport Police Department (APD), as the one who hurled the Molotov to the parking area that caused damage to three vehicles near the spot where the alleged bomb exploded.

The suspect was sighted by APD intelligence personnel during the September 28 follow-up operation near the exit of the Terminal 3 open parking area.

Upon interrogation, he allegedly admitted that "he was the one who threw the Molotov cocktail device that he personally assembled using an energy drink bottle containing gasoline then dipped a cloth inside, ignited it and quickly threw it towards the direction of the parking lot."

He was turned over to the Pasay City Police and currently detained at the Pasay City Police.

MIAA officer in charge Bryan Co said the swift resolution of the incident highlights MIAA's commitment to maintaining the security and safety of travelers and airport personnel.
