The Philippine National Police - Aviation Security Group (Avsegroup) said Monday, July 14, that the effort to apprehend wanted individuals is continuing and becoming more robust with increasing arrests at the country's airports.

Aviation police said that a man who had been away from Manila for over a decade was held at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 upon returning from Istanbul, Turkey on Sunday, July 13.

The passenger, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose name was withheld, was flagged by Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel after he presented his passport for clearance.

The BI found out that the OFW was a wanted person with a warrant for arrest for theft issued in 2014.

The passenger is currently under the custody of the Pasay City Police Station for proper documentation.

On July 11, a 42-year-old female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was arrested by the Avsegroup and BI at the Iloilo International Airport for committing the crime of Estafa.

The OFW, a resident of Dumalag, Capiz, arrived from Singapore but was detected to have an active warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court in Capiz.

The Avsegroup stated that quick confirmation of the arrest was made possible by the prompt coordination between immigration officers ad the Iloilo Airport Police Station.

She was later escorted to Ramon Memorial District Hospital for a routine medical examination and then transferred to the Cabatuan Municipal Police Station for booking and temporary custody.

In another development, Aviation police added that on July 12, an attempt to smuggle of P1.2 million to Hong Kong was foiled at the NAIA Terminal 3.

The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) x-ray screening officers detected an image what appeared to be stacks of money in the trolley bag of a 61-year-old passenger.

The Bureau of Customs (BoC) examiners conducted a manual inspection of the undeclared cash in front of the sexagenarian traveler.
