Flight operators were advised to avoid flying near the Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon due to possible hazards from sudden explosive eruptions, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Monday, April 28.
The aviation regulator has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for flights near Bulusan Volcano, "with vertical limits from the surface up to 21,000 feet."
"The latest NOTAM will be in effect from April 28, 2025 at 8:29 a.m. until April 29, 2025 at 4:36 a.m.," the CAAP said.
Bulusan Volcano has been raised to Alert Level 1 (Low-level Unrest), according to the CAAP.
A 24-minute phreatic eruption occurred from the summit crater of Bulusan Volcano at 4:36 a.m. Monday, producing a bent plume that rose 4,500 meters above the crater before drifting west to southwest.
Ashfall was reported in Barangays Cogon and Bolos in the municipality of Irosin and Barangays Puting Sapa, Guruyan, Buraburan, and Tulatula Sur in Juban, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
