AirAsia Philippines reopened its hub in the "Queen City of the South" after more the two years.
Cebu City - It took at least two years before AirAsia Philippines expanded its route network in the "Queen City of the South" and boosted more flights to the Visayas and Mindanao.
Targeting to grab 100 percent load capacity after suffering heavy losses from the pandemic, AirAsia PH Chief Executive Officer Ricky Isla said that the airline is too excited that it wants to be a best contributor not just in tourism but to energize business again in Cebu, which the airline begun operating in the city in 2013.
"The reopening of our Cebu hub signifies AirAsia's commitment to improving connectivity and providing best options among guests not only for flights but also with our partner hotels, tour providers and merchants, all present in our digital, travel and lifestyle platform - airasia Super App," Isla said during the reopening in Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) on Tuesday.
He added that aside from Cebu, the company resumed and added more flights to the Visayas and Mindanao destinations Caticlan (Boracay), Davao, Cagayan de Oro and Puerto Princesa and international destinations Seoul (Incheon) and Kuala Lumpur.
The low-cost carrier said beginning today (August 16) passengers departing via MCIA Terminal 2 can fly Boracay seven times weekly via flight Z2-550, four times weekly to Cagayan de Oro via Z2-512, four times weekly to Davao via Z2-521, and three times weekly to Incheon.
The four times weekly flight to Puerto Princesa will begin on September 2 while the three times weekly flight to Kuala Lumpur will commence on September 21, 2022.
"The increase in flight frequency strategically positions AirAsia as a key driver in boosting economic activities in the various provinces which need a springboard to speed up the recovery phase. Our guests can count on our solid track record in safety, best value for money deals and world's best service each time they fly," Isla added.
He said that AirAsia Philippines is now considered part of the big three airlines in the country which is also a major player in the aviation industry.

The AirAsia Philippines CEO is joined by key officials from the Department of Tourism (DoT) Region 7, City and Provincial government of Cebu, and executives from MCIA and GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporations.
The airline is offering super low fares this August with one-way base fare of P88 for flights booked from August 1 to September 4, 2022 for travels between August 1 to 23, 2022 to March 23, 2023.
