Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Cesar Chiong made an ocular inspection at the NAIA terminals in preparation for the upcoming Semana Santa, where he mentioned during inspection that the MIAA is already addressing the problem of congestion of departing passengers at the BI counters.

Expect departing passengers’ experience at immigration counters to improve at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 with the construction of additional counters underway at the premier airport, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Cesar Chiong said on Wednesday.

The added convenience will help departing passengers clear fast their travel documents at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) counters. Passengers have in the past complained of delays, if not missing their flights due to the congestion.

According to Chiong, who conducted an inspection at the NAIA terminals in preparation for the Holy Week, some of the additional immigration counters would be allotted for foreign diplomats, APEC participants, person with disability (PWD), pregnant women, and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The existing 28 counters at the Terminal 3 will be for regular passengers.

MIAA is hopeful that the construction of additional 14 immigration counters will be completed in December this year.

Chiong also said he already informed the Bureau of Immigration to increase manpower to address the problem of congestion especially during peak hours at the immigration counters.

Meanwhile, MIAA said that the Cathay Pacific Lounge at the NAIA Terminal 3 reopened on Wednesday, almost three years after its closure in April 2020.

The MIAA said the newly refurbished passenger lounge at the fourth level of the international departure area opens from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The airline, it added, will continue to make traveling truly memorable with its signature products and services apart from the comfort of comfortable lounges before passengers take off.
