As it nears its silver jubilee, the social corporate responsibility arm of the ABS-CBN Corporation is ready to hand over the stewardship of the La Mesa Watershed to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

ABS-CBN Foundation is now slated to transfer the responsibility of caring for Metro Manila’s largest and only remaining fainforest, starting February 15.

According to ABS-CBN Foundation’s official statement, the management transition is based on the Integrated Watershed Management Roadmap for Angat, Ipo, and La Mesa that is led by the MWSS.

“ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. (AFI) officially concludes its stewardship of the La Mesa Nature Reserve and La Mesa Ecopark and turns management over to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) on 15 February 2024. The handover aligns with the Integrated Watershed Management Roadmap for Angat, Ipo, and La Mesa (IWMRAIL) led by MWSS, which ensures the protection and preservation of the three watersheds,” according to the statement.

As part of the transition, the La Mesa Ecopark will be closed to the public starting February 12 until further notice.

The foundation also assured affected employees that they will receive severance packages.

On the other hand, in the same statement, MWSS Administrator Leonor C. Cleofas, CESO IV, said that the La Mesa Nature Reserve will be turned over to the MWSS Corporate Office, while La Mesa Ecopark will be turned over to MWSS-CO, in cooperation with Quezon City LGU.
