Food content creator Abi Marquez let out a shy laugh when it was pointed out that she's actually introverted.

Known for her confident on-camera persona and great sense of humor, Abi’s reserved nature contrasts with her lively content.

Recently, Abi conducted a cooking demonstration at a Knorr event, answering audience questions with patience.

In an exclusive interview after the event, Abi's introverted side surfaced. Smiling, she admitted, "Yes, I'm very introverted."

She explained that appearing outgoing on camera is a learned skill. “It takes practice,” she said.

Dubbed the "Lumpia Queen," Abi shared that one of the best things she did was taking voice lessons during high school, which she continued for five years.

Her soothing voice can often be heard in her cooking videos, where she occasionally breaks into song.

Introversion and humor

Abi also has a YouTube channel called Abi Sings, where she does music covers while playing guitar and piano.

Reflecting on her dual personality, she said, “Every summer, I would perform in front of a crowd, and being introverted, it's a bit contradictory, but I’m actually loud.”

Abi’s mix of introversion and humor works well in her content creation career.

“I think being loud is my way of diffusing tension and making people happy. I enjoy my own company but I learned how to engage with people. Events like this just mean I need to recharge afterward, but I don’t regret any of it,” she noted.

Abi’s lighthearted personality has earned her a massive following.

She currently boasts 1.49 million YouTube subscribers, 3.9 million TikTok followers, 1.2 million Instagram followers, and 2 million followers on Facebook.

A self-confessed nerd, Abi attributes her humor to her childhood and an interesting connection with her grandfather.

Sharing the story for the first time, she revealed that in her younger years, she would spend weekends searching for jokes online to entertain her grandfather.

This playful humor carries into her videos, where she prepares Filipino dishes and delivers quick, witty jokes.

Abi’s approachable style, often sprinkled with a touch of awkwardness, resonates with viewers, including non-Filipinos.

"It’s humorous but also a little awkward, which helps diffuse tension in the videos," she said.

"Viewers appreciate that because it mirrors real life."

Accolades

Abi was recently honored as one of Forbes 30 Under 30 for 2024 and named TikTok Food Content Creator of 2023.

She is one of seven Filipinos on this year’s Forbes list, which also includes Filipino-American rapper Ez Mil.

At just 23 years old, Abi admitted she didn’t expect to receive such accolades.

"As a creator, my focus has always been on putting out high-quality videos daily. I don’t aim for awards or recognition, so it was a pleasant surprise."

Abi expressed her pride in not just being a food creator, but also representing young Filipina women and Filipino cuisine on the global stage.
