Retired PNP Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, who had earlier refuted speculations about his plans for the 2022 national elections had a change of heart and will instead run for senator under the banner of another former PNP Chief, Sen. Panfilo Lacson.
BARELY a day after retiring from the Philippine National Police (PNP), former PNP Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar is gunning for another battle - this time at the Senate.
Eleazar, who had earlier refuted speculations about his plans for the 2022 national elections, has confirmed his intention to run for senator under the banner of another former PNP Chief, Sen. Panfilo Lacson.
“Yes, I confirm that he will run under Partido Reporma to substitute for Paolo Capino who has announced his intention to withdraw from the senatorial race yesterday,” Lacson said in a message to reporters.
Eleazar officially retired from the PNP today (November 13) after reaching the police force's mandatory retirement age of 56.
Last Thursday, Lt. Gen. Dionardo Carlos was confirmed to be his successor by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Prior to becoming PNP chief, Eleazar was the head of PNP Task Force COVID Shield and was Metro Manila’s top cop.
