No one is spared of messages of misinformation and disinformation.

Whether you’re a New Yorker, an Italian, living in the mountains of Tibet, a Waraynon, a Leyteño or a Leyteña, pieces of information are distorted, especially with the advent of social media, in one way or the other especially.

Misinformation or whatever you call it, disinformation, is a world phenomenon.

That is why a stage musical such as “Pilato” is an important work of art that reminds us and reflects what disinformation is all about.

This is a testament of how it works.

The characters, particularly, and the interplay of all elements of theater are indicative of how misinformation and disinformation are used to define them. No, the play doesn’t disinform or misinform.

It has a clear message.

It is the conveyance of the way the characters are motivated, acted and reacted depending on the situations and the contexts of how the situations are processed, not only because it is adapted from another source like salvation history or world history.

It is the character, especially focused on Pilato that disinforms and misinforms the viewers.

The issue of Pilato’s decision and indecision on his punishment of crucifixion to Jesus Christ that evokes the idea of misinformation and disinformation.

Did Pilato really mean to punish Jesus Christ who was, in the first place, an innocent man?

Did Pilato just want to satisfy his king, Tiberius, so he ordered the crucifixion of Jesus Christ?

Or did he really want Jesus Christ dead?

What is Pilato’s real character?

These are posed by “Pilato,” a musical staged by The Corner Studio directed by Eldrin Veloso and acted by a competent ensemble headed by Jerome Ferguson as Pilato.

It is the power struggle in the Roman Empire that motivated Pilato to be reluctant in punishing Jesus Christ.

He wanted to remain in power but at the same time believed in the innocence of Jesus Christ.

What added to the complexity of disinformation and misinformation about the truth of Pilato’s indecisiveness to pass a verdict on Jesus Christ is the scarce historical records on the life of Pilato, Pontius Pilate in full name.

Go figure.

The “washing of hands” to free him from remorse identified with Pilato is also one indication of the disinformation and misinformation about his actions.

Just take a hard look on the blurb “Pilato” created: “Ano ba ang katotohanan (What is truth?)”

That speaks volumes of “truths.”

Yet there is absolute truth—Pilato ordered the death in the cross of Jesus Christ.

Come to think of it.

Hopefully, “Pilato” reaches Region 8, the provinces of Leyte and Samar so that Waraynons can have a closer look at the mechanisms of disinformation and misinformation.
