Another challenge for small farmers, particularly those rearing fruits and vegetables, is the lack of a processing facility where they can turn their raw harvests into marketable products.

Such facilities could help alleviate the problem of lack of direct access to markets that result in crop wastage.

In Laguna province, aspiring food entrepreneurs and innovators now have greater access to advanced food processing technologies, thanks to the CALABARZON Food Solutions Hub (C-FoSH) at the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU).

Designed to support small businesses, students, and startups, the LSPU C-FoSH, located inside the university’s main campus in Santa Cruz, enables users to develop, refine, and scale their food products into competitive, market-ready offerings.

The facility serves as a shared food-processing facility where individuals can use or rent modern equipment, eliminating the need for costly investments in their own machinery or production plants.

The C-FoSH accommodates a wide range of food product development, including dried fruits, instant beverage powders, powdered food products, seasoning and flavor mixes, and healthy snacks and ready-to-eat food innovations

Entrepreneurs can take advantage of specialized machinery that will ensure product consistency, extend shelf life, and meet quality standards required for broader market distribution.

These technologies, which are often expensive and inaccessible to small-scale producers, are made available at affordable rates, enabling users to innovate without heavy capital investment.

The C-FoSH plays a critical role in supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by lowering production costs through shared facilities, enhancing product quality and safety, and opening opportunities for scaling up and entering larger markets.
