97,000 Grade 12 students hope to become DOST scholars

The city of Taguig should be appreciated for disseminating educational information that is important to the whole nation, and could open doors of knowledge and growth for youths in Metro Manila and other regions.

Their Taguig News this week announced the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Science Education Institute (SEI) scholarships that is open to qualified Filipino students. A total of 97,000 Grade 12 students nationwide took the examination to become DOST-SEI scholars and only 10,000 will be selected, it was announced by Taguig News.


The scholars will receive an eight-thousand-peso monthly allowance, P40,000 tuition aid per academic year for those who enroll in private universities and colleges, P10,000 for learning materials and transportation, a P10,000 thesis allowance, and a roundtrip ticket for those coming from the provinces.


Approximately 97,000 Grade 12 students from around the Philippines took the DOST-SEI 2024 Undergraduate Scholarships Qualifying Examination held at 205 testing centers on April 6 and 7, 2024.


The number of examinees this year has increased by 20% compared to last year, when 79,585 students took the exam. Only ten thousand will be chosen as scholars for 2024.


Currently, DOST-SEI is supporting about 40,000 scholars studying science and technology courses.


Those who pass the exam need to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program in any priority field of science and technology in a state university or college or any private higher education institution recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as a Center of Excellence or Center of Development or has a Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines Level III accreditation for the degree program that a scholarship qualifier will enter.

DOST-SEI continues to support its scholars by raising the monthly allowance of undergraduate scholars from P7,000 to P8,000 in 2024. Those pursuing a master's degree will now receive P30,000, up from the previous P25,000. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) scholars now receive P38,000, up from the previous P33,000.


The successful candidates for the 2024 DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarships will be announced in June or July of this year on the official DOST-SEI website, its social media page and in major newspapers.
