The largest invitational golf tournament will open this weekend at the Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay with over 1000 participants.
The world’s biggest amateur tournament, in terms of participation, the 72nd Fil-Am Men’s Invitational is ready to open following the start of the practice rounds and team captains' meeting on November 23 at the Camp John Hay Golf Club.
Present at the meeting were Fil-Am co-chairmen Anthony de Leon of Baguio Country Club and Jude Eustaquio of Camp John Hay Golf Club and rules officials Jose “Pepot” Iñigo and Jack Imperial, together with the teams who were then taught on the of play and on-course rules of co-hosts Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay as reported by Manila Standard.
“On behalf of Jude (Eustaquio), I welcome everyone to this annual event. We are happy to see new and old friends here and have a sort of reunion,” said De Leon, general manager of BCC.
On top of the list of things to discuss were the new health guidelines in which the officials revealed the elimination of antigen tests that were implemented last year.
However each participant is still required to submit proof of full vaccination and booster shots and is expected to follow minimum health and safety protocols especially within the locker facilities which will operate within limits, Business Mirror reported.
All in all, over 1,200 players coming from 240 teams will be participating with 100 teams included in the seniors division and 26 belonging in the lower divisions of the regular teams this week.
Meanwhile, 110 squads are still currently in the waitlist.
The two-week event is held in partnership with Baguio Country Club, Camp John Hay Golf Club, The Manor, The Forest Lodge, and Le Chef. The event presenters are 3K Rock Engineering and Construction Corp., Toyota, Boysen, and Columbia Sportswear.
Making the event possible are major sponsors which are Palm Grove, Britanny Corp., and Asiatraders Corp. while minor sponsors are Time Cargo Logistics, Lola Nena’s, K&G, Rudy Project, JTEN Sports, Inc., Januarius Holdings, Beer Below Zero, and Tee Sports Gear as reported by Manila Bulletin.
