Tip for travelers: bullets, even when regarded as a “lucky charm,” are still considered dangerous ammunition.
The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup) announced on Friday, October 11, the arrest of a traveler leaving for Cagayan de Oro City for carrying ammunition
The unidentified 60-year-old suspect, a resident of Pandi, Bulacan, was carrying 11 pieces of .22 caliber bullets that were found inside his luggage during a routine screening at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2.
The suspect failed to provide legal documents or supporting papers for the ammunition and was subsequently taken into custody.
Avsegroup personnel said that the passenger has violated Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Police authorities are currently investigating the case, the Avsegroup said.
"This arrest highlights the unwavering commitment of our Group, along with other airport authorities, to ensure the safety of airport users and uphold the law," said Avsegroup chief PBGen Christopher Abrahano.
