Catbalogan City, Samar – Fifty-three barangays across the province of Samar have been recognized for their excellence in local governance, earning the prestigious 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB) from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
This recognition serves as a testament to the outstanding leadership and governance demonstrated by these barangays.
To qualify, they had to excel in three Core Governance Areas: Financial Administration and Sustainability, Disaster Preparedness, and Safety, Peace and Order. Additionally, they were required to show significant contributions in at least one Essential Governance Area, such as Social Protection and Sensitivity, Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, and Environmental Management.
The awardees come from various municipalities in Samar, including Basey, Catbalogan City, Calbayog City, Calbiga, Gandara, Jiabong, Marabut, Matuguinao, Motiong, Paranas, Tarangnan, Sta. Rita, and Pinabacdao. These barangays have demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing local governance and providing better public service to their communities.
The SGLGB award serves as an important indicator of successful governance reforms at the grassroots level. With this recognition, barangay officials are expected to further strengthen their efforts in delivering efficient, accountable, and responsive public service. The award also serves as an inspiration for other barangays to strive for excellence in governance and community development.
