Around 4,000 workers in Eastern Visayas will soon be eligible for free healthcare services under the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional information officer Norma Rae Costimiano, the agency aims to bring YAKAP registration this year to at least 20 large establishments in the region, with each employing some 200 workers.
YAKAP is an enhanced primary care benefit package in the Philippines that expands the previous Konsulta Package to provide comprehensive, proactive healthcare to all members.
“In convergence with PhilHealth, we are making sure that our workers are productive since their health is taken care of. Through this program, we are bringing health services closer to our workers,” Costimiano added.
The DOLE and PhilHealth signed a memorandum of agreement on July 25 to bring quality primary health care closer to Filipino workers through YAKAP.
Under YAKAP, PhilHealth also selected up to 75 essential medicines. This benefit offers up to P20,000 per year, making sure that the cost of medicine is not an extra worry to patients.
