More and more young voters are eager to participate in the upcoming 2025 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) recently announced.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco reported that the number of new voters preparing to participate in the upcoming May 2025 national and local elections has surpassed 4.3 million.

Since the resumption of voter registration in February, Comelec has processed a total of 4.36 million applications.

CALABARZON emerged as the region with the highest number of registrants, totaling 742,925, followed closely by the National Capital Region with 603,496 registrations.

Central Luzon ranked third with 510,503 applicants, followed by Davao region with 255,213 and Central Visayas with 230,954.

Conversely, the Cordillera Administrative Region recorded the fewest applications at 57,709, followed by CARAGA with 111,075 and MIMAROPA with 112,103.

The Cordillera region has fewer aspiring voters primarily due to its lower population compared to other regions in the country.

Many young Cordillerans, he explained, are enrolled in universities in Ilocos Norte and Cagayan Valley, where they have registered as voters.

"They choose to cast their votes in these areas rather than traveling home, especially considering the challenges posed by remote and mountainous locations," Laudiangco stated.

Voter registration will continue until September 30, during which Comelec said it will continue to encourage Filipinos, especially the youth, to exercise their right to suffrage.
