The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has approved proposals from three local government units (LGUs) in the province of Laguna for the "Lunsod Lunsad Project" at the 2024 Lunsod LUnsad Ceremonial Awarding at the Philippines Trade Training Center in Pasay City.
The Lunsod Lunsad Project is an initiative of DTI that seeks to harness the potential of creative sectors to spur socio-economic growth in local communities by giving funding and technical support to specific projects.
DTI collected creative proposals from cities nationwide and selected those that would best utilize their creative assets and resources for socio-economic growth and cultural reinvigoration.
Out of the 63 grantees nationwide, seven are in Calabarzon, while three are in Laguna: the cities of San Pedro, Biñan and Calamba.
The city government of San Pedro proposed “San Pedro Lunsod LUnsan SHowcase of Different Creative Industries Retaso – Peace of a Dream” which will make fabric scraps into new clothes to reduce waste and promote recycling.
It also offers livelihood for San Pedrenses as well as to promote local artists and fashion designers.
For the Biñan City LGU, their approved proposal is the “Likhain Biñan: Biñan City Packaging and Design Center," while Calamba City presented its proposal entitled "Calambagong Fiesta: Taste, Style, and Creativity Fair."
