21st Spanish Film Festival” opens today at Red Carpet Cinema Shang-ri La Plaza

The 21st Spanish Film Festival, aptly billed “Pelikcula” begins today, October 5, at the Red Carpet Cinema in Shang-ri La Plaza, Mandaluyong City as it ushers an in-person and online editions in a less restrictive health emergency of COVID-19.

According to Instituto Cervantes de Manila, the proponent of the event, there are more than 20 movies to be feasted at the festival from full-length features to documentaries to short films.

Javier Galvan Guijo, IC Director, said the main purpose of the Spanish Film Festival since its inception in 2001 is to offer the world Spanish quality cinema.

“That is our vision. We have never hesitated to adapt to changing circumstances in order to continue offering the best cinema in Spanish. What remains unchanged is our commitment to quality cinema,” said Guijo.

Selected films ranged from the classics to the contemporary.

Some of the feature films lined-up are “Competencia Oficial (Official Competition)” (2021) which stars Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz which is scheduled to screen on October 9 at 5 pm and 15 at 7:30 pm at Red Carpet; “Muerte de un Ciclista (Death of a Cyclist)” (1955) on October 6 at 2:30 pm at Red Carpet and`October 11 at 2:30 pm at IC Intramuros;

Doc films to be shown are “A las Mujeres de España Maria Lejarraga” (2022) to screen on October 7 3:30 pm at Red Carpet and October 13 at 2:30 pm at the UPFI; “El siglo de Galdos” (2020) and “España, la primera globalizacion” (2021).

A Filipino short film, “Dosena” by Kyla Romero and “Totem Loba (She Wolf)” by Veronica Echegui will be screened under the section “En corto” to be shown at the Red Carpet at 2:30 pm.

The festival ends on October 16, 2022.
