KALIBO, Aklan — To observe the annual World Blood Donor Day with the theme “20 Years of Celebrating Giving: Thank you, Blood Donor", the Aklan Blood Coordinating Council (ABCC) organized a bloodletting activity at the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Aklan premises last Friday, June 14.

Donating blood is one of the simplest yet most impactful ways to contribute to the health and well-being of others throughout the years. Considered a selfless act that costs very little but means so much. This is especially so to those in need such as a victim of an accident, a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy or dialysis, or a person with a life-threatening blood disorder.

Statistics show someone requires blood every two seconds. This startling figure emphasizes how vital blood donation is to our healthcare system and countless people's lives.

Donating blood is a great act of generosity and a gift that has the potential to save lives, not just a straightforward medical procedure.

Collaboration

PRC–Aklan organizes bloodletting activities in collaboration with national, local and private government entities to encourage individuals to become regular blood donors and guarantee blood is available whenever and wherever needed.

The bloodletting activity successfully garnered 37 units of blood, exceeding its initial target of 20 units.

Among the donors were first-timer Mary Joe Galeon of PRC–Aklan and Galloner Aklan Provincial Blood Coordinator Roger Debuque.

Megs Lunn, ABCC President, thanked all of the volunteer donors, highlighting, in particular, the Aklan Police Provincial Office for their presence and support for the event, volunteer physician Dr. Jun Cor Gamboa, student volunteers from St. Gabriel College, Garcia College of Technology Red Cross Youth, event partners Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo, Rotaract Club of Metro Kalibo, Dunkin’, Ting-Ting’s Canteen & Catering Services, and media partners Kalibo Cable TV Network and Love Radio.
